I served with the 458th from October 1968 to Dec 1969. I began as a company clerk in Vung Tau, then became a coxswain as one of the original members of the Vung Ro Bay detachment. I notice that you don't mention me among those who you've located. If you're still accepting members, tell me what I need to do to join.

Just read some of the Email from fellow PBR vets. I was with the 458th PBRs 69-70 Quin-Nhon. Just a few thoughts that I would like to pass along. We had a major storm. I remember being in my bunk after getting off a night patrol when the storm came crashing through the wall. Original, the barracks was and old folk lift shed. There was a guy by the name of Crag (can't remember his last name) who accidentally kill himself wile on patrol. The PBR pulled up to an area on the west bank, he placed his M16 down with the trigger housing over the peep sight of the front 50's wile securing the bow to the beach. When he went to remove the M16, the trigger let off a round that hit him in the heart - that is what I was told that happen. I remember using concussion grenades for fishing when papa-son had his nets out. We would take the days catch over to a please called "market time" to sell to the locals. We also had a stray mutt that we called Red Dog that hated the local dock workers. Bob Perry

Outstanding web site! Thanks for providing this and the tribute to our soldiers. I served as the Chaplain for the 716th MP Battalion in 1968. Rode on one of the River Boats a couple of times and visited soldiers at Cat Lai and Nah Beh. Thanks for your service to our Nation.

It sounds like your story should be a movie, probably one long overdue. I sympathize with you about not having names on pictures. Fifty years ago I was a Woman Marine for a short time and now I am getting in touch with some friends from that time and we lament that we didn't write names and dates on our boot camp pictures. I guess they kept us too busy! I found your site through the Langa List, just thought I would browse for a while. Keep up to good work.
